The Cal Poly California Cybersecurity Institute works closely with the state of California on a variety of issues ranging from training support to addressing cybersecurity workforce development in California.

Since 2019, the CCI has been a partner and member of the consortium under the California Advanced Defense Ecosystems & National Consortia Effort (CADENCE) and California Advanced Supply Chain Analysis and Diversification Effort (CASCADE)

CADENCE: Space Commercialization

Executive Summary

As American manufacturing continues to erode, the US Department of Defense is taking the initiative to address the challenges of meeting national security requirements by increasing the abilities of U.S. suppliers in innovation and manufacturing through the collaboration of key public and private organizations. Three Cal Poly organizations, the CCI, the DxHub, and the Cal Poly CubeSat have teamed up to support space commercialization and manufacturing to capture industry requirements, create public-private partnerships, improve workforce development efforts, and help drive innovation and collaboration.

The Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program (DMCSP) includes 15 project components executed by a consortium comprised of community, industry, state agencies, and educational institutions. DMCSP project activities will focus on supporting California suppliers in the defense innovation and manufacturing base who are involved in the advancement of these specific key technologies or supply chains including microelectronics, fifth-generation (5G) wireless technology, cyber, space, artificial intelligence, and fully networked command, control and communications (FNC3).

CASCADE: Supply Chain Security

Executive Summary

This unique effort involves Cybersecurity for Space Systems. California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly, SLO) is leading an effort to better understand a top priority for national security, enhancing the cybersecurity of space assets. Space is now considered a warfighting domain because much of U.S. critical infrastructure relies on connectivity in or through space. The California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI) at Cal Poly SLO project addresses identified Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial space needs in many ways.

Two important components include conducting a Space Operations Challenge series and two Space Summits leveraging Cal Poly’s Digital Transformation Hub (DxHub) in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This project alone engages more than 20 partners, including DoD’s Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), and the Vandenberg Air Force Base 30th Space Wing Air Force Space Command.
