What drew you to come work at the Cal Poly California Cybersecurity Institute?
During the 2021-2022 school year, Hevin applied to the React Developer job posting for the CCI. Hevin was drawn to the CCI as the React Developer position offered a chance for him to improve his coding skills, specifically with React, while working with other students outside of his classes. The CCI’s environment also provided a unique opportunity to expand his knowledge surrounding the cybersecurity industry.
What interests you about cybersecurity or technology?
Pertaining to cybersecurity, Hevin’s interest in the field began with his first cybersecurity course at Cal Poly. The techniques and principles intertwined with technology and cybersecurity are of great significance to Hevin. He strongly believes that cybersecurity is crucial to our everyday life but is often overlooked. Because of this, many take their privacy and safety for granted.
What have you been working on at the Cal Poly California Cybersecurity Institute? And what skills have you learned or applied during your tenure?
During Hevin’s tenure at the CCI, he has worked on the web application that hosts the CCI’s annual Space Grand Challenge. While using both JavaScript and AWS Cognito, Hevin learned from his other CCI colleagues, to further develop his skills. Not only has Hevin become a better software engineer, but he has also grown into a more valuable team player. While carrying out CCI projects, Hevin has had to work cohesively alongside several other CCI employees.
How does the Cal Poly California Cybersecurity Institute fit in your future career?
Following his graduation from Cal Poly in March 2023, Hevin plans to become a web developer. Hevin will use the agile development methodology, implemented at the CCI, in his future endeavors. Since many companies require this development process while completing extensive projects, Hevin expressed that this was an advantageous experience. He mentioned that this fast-paced way of working will be helpful as it has given him confidence to achieve success as his postgraduate career begins.
