Alumni Highlight: Matthew Lem

The CCI periodically has students sit down with Cal Poly alumni working in or alongside the cybersecurity industry. Parker McKenzie (COMS) recently conducted this interview with Matthew Lem.

Matthew Lem | BUS 2019
(Concentrations of Information Systems and Accounting)

Matthew Lem graduated from Cal Poly in 2019 with a degree in Business Administration, concentrating in information systems and accounting. During his time at Cal Poly, Matthew participated in a wide variety of academic activities and societies. Post-graduate, Matthew worked at Deloitte Consulting for 2 years as a technology analyst and consultant and at Unity for 2 years as a business systems analyst.

Matthew thrives in the academic environment and hopes one day in the future to become a professor himself. While at Cal Poly, he was involved in student government, WOW, accounting clubs, information systems clubs, a professional fraternity, and worked as an advisor and tutor on campus.

Having worked at Unity, the game engine student developers use for the Space Grand Challenge, Matthew emphasizes it is a powerful tool for anyone, especially at Cal Poly, for expressing yourself and creating something you are passionate about. Matthew advises that if you are ever curious about something to go and try it, as it will not only be self-fulfilling, but also will open career opportunities and general hobbies.
